There is nothing particularly good about this GE Cafe side by side refrigerator: only the front wheels adjust and they leave the refrigerator "bouncy", the are 1/2" gaps in the refrigerator liner (at the seams), the tray beneath the water dispenser does not fit tightly as designed so water can leak behind. After the installer failed (he used 6 shims on each of the rear wheels as he didn't know how to adjust the front wheels up and down), i asked my builder to fix it...he had to shim it on the sides to add stability??!?. I would find another product...as $4600 dollar counter depth refrigerators go...you could do a LOT better. The one i had before that died (and i couldn't get anyone to show up for the extended warranty repair) was much better quality.

Problematic

I love the look of this refrigerator, and also the feel of the handles. The refrigerator has has problems since the day it was installed. 1) I have issues with the doors being aligned equally; the refrigerator has been replaced once due to this issue. 2) Also, the icemaker is problematic and it stopped making crushed ice and only produces whole ice cubes. 3) Additionally, a part (some sort of white plastic stripping) fell onto one of the shelves on the refrigerator side, and I can't figure out where it came from or how to put it back in place. 4) There was an intermittent frost issue in the beginning, with icy frost particles accumulating in the freezer and also the refirgerator, but that seems to have resolved over time. 5) Lastly, the doors do not close completely on their own; I have to make sure I push them closed. The repair technician addressed this issue in the beginning, twice, adjusting the doors, and even replaced the stripping around the doors, but the problem remains. Summary: I would not buy this GE refrigerator model again.

This fridge has drawers in the freezer that does not allow soft freezer items to block the air flow. Our last fridge had no drawers and soft freezer items would block the air flow and that caused our problems to replace it only after 2.5 years.

Decent, but has some issues

For the most part, the unit is great. But there are two concerns. First, the fridge tilts backwards to a signifcant degree. I™€™m on my second unit and both had the same issue. The insaller told me it was a consistent problem with this model and a lot of customers return the model for that reason. I had to use a piece of wood to prop the backside up just to make the fridge stand straight with no backward tilt. Also, the ice dispenser is a problem. The dispenser hole is so wide that if you use a standard glass or cup ice will fall out around the side of the glass. The problem is amplified if you try and dispense crushed ice. The crushed ice just sprays everywhere. The only way to prevent ice from spraying out everywhere is to use a glass with an extra large opening, like a beer stein, that can encompass the entire dispenser opening. I didn™€™t have that problem with the ice dispenser on my Whirlpool side-by-side.

Cafe vs Profile

Had a side by side Profile and upgraded to the Cafe because of great price and better quality. The overall capacity is adequate but slightly smaller. Was able to use the beverage rack from the old Profile in the Cafe which was not an option on the Cafe. My only issue is the Ice/Water panel is hard to read. The lettering font and boldness is too small and difficult to read. It would be a benefit if the LED lighting would include the various options. Overall, very nice design and satisfied with the Fridge!

Question shelf quality on this high end appliance

Not impressed with quality of material. One of the original freezer shelves was broken (the plastic frame around the glass was broken). Received a replacement and within a week the replacement was broken (the plastic frame around the glass) in a different location. A second replacement is being shipped. I fear that we will be dealing with this for the product™€™s lifecycle. For a high end appliance this should not be happening. The bottom slide out draws are very difficult to reinstall - to line up the 4 locking pins - not user friendly & not a very good design.

Lovely refrigerator

After 15 years we needed a new frig. I did major research. Went to every store in San Diego that sold refrigerators. Finally decided the Ge Cafe side by side counter depth was the right refrigerator for us. We had to have counter depth. Small kitchen. But we host parties. Had to be configured well enough to hold party food. This refrigerator is perfect. Has really nice drawers that slide easy. A deli drawer and a butter keeper. 2 very important things for me. The freezer will even hold a frozen pizza. It has wire door racks perfect for ice cream bars and butter sticks . And I love the round handles. I think they™€™re called bar handles. The right one has a beautiful copper Cafe logo. Best frig ever. Very quiet.

This refrigerator is very stylish. We bought a counter depth.They are smaller but this one is very well appointed. The drawers slide so nice. Has a Deli drawer and a Butter keeper. Which most refrigerators no longer have. Helps to keep everything organized.The freezer has 2 drawers and really nice wire shelves on the door that bend out. There is even a little shelf above the ice maker. Perfect for ice cream bars. It is made in Kentucky. One of the reason I bought it. Love, Love, Love this refrigerator.

I was a bit nervous about getting a smaller refrigerator , however due to the space I went to a counter depth model. I purchased the double oven so thought the cafe would be a nice touch. I have been pleasantly surprised that it has nice space and the solving and drawers are very roomy and flexibility with shelving. Love water on the door and it is not messy. The stainless stays very clean and not a lot of fingerprints. I really am very happy with it.

Besides being loud, the shelf placement is a bit awkard, wasting vertical space. The shelf frames are also so wide that you can't quite use all the horizontal space. The folding shelf is interesting, but the bar under it impeades complete usage of the shelf below.

Continuation of my previous review. I downgraded from 3 stars to 2 stars. The ice/water dispenser pad is hard to read and is not backlit. Unless you know where to touch points are it's difficult to switch. Also, it you aren't careful the water will overshoot your glass and end up on the floor. I wish that I had not bought the refrigerator and wish that I could return it.

I really want to love this refridgerator but I can't. 1. The fridge temp has been between 39-42 degrees, even though the door panel says the temp is 34 degrees. 2. The shelves are not deep. I cannot keep the same amount of things in this fridge compared to my old fridge. I couldn't even fit the soda can holder! The drawers are also small, especially the ones in the freezer. And this fridge sticks out quite a bit.

Nice refrigerator with a couple of twist. Number 1: When they delivered and were removing the protective plastic it removed some of the finish! Didn't know that stainless steel had a finish. Number 2: A counter depth refrigerator is already short of space. They could have added two more door shelves, another shelf in the fridge and another in the freezer. I would attach pictures, but that feature isn't working.

I've had this side-by-side refrigerator and freezer for a little over a week, and will try to update my review after a year. So far, the appliance is working well. The controls are easy and I especially like the feature that allows you to turn off the ice maker if you want to. My only reservation is that the fridge and freezer are not as capacious as my previous one, which was of the same external dimensions.

This unit is unfortunately terrible.

I was frankly very disappointed by the product. We had replaced a French door Cafe after only 6 years as the refrigerator temperature was not able to be maintained. I was impressed as the GE Tech was able to plug in and determine immediately what was wrong, but the issue was unfortunately due to a valve failure in the sealed system and too expensive to repair. The replacement fridge unfortunately immediately had issues, and actually would not bring the fridge temp down to the desired 37 degrees. This fridge does not even have the same diagnostic capabilities, so we needed to have monitors in for a week for GE to determine the issue. After a week, we needed a new control board (an updated version per the tech). Even now with the new board the refrigerated temp never can get below 40 degrees, even when the setting is at 34 degrees! Very disappointing.

Wonderful classy look! The doors swing shut like a heavy vault door versus a cheap flexible feeling. The ice maker is amazing and works like a champ! I like the touch screen pad on the front and the light function is a nice to turn on or off. My only nit pick would be if the refrigerator was a little deeper to allow a little more room inside. The shelves are easy to adjust and the drawers slide in and out with ease.

Deeply Disappointed with this Cafe fridge

Extremely disappointed with this refrigerator. Despite being less than 2 years old, it's been nothing but trouble. The ice maker and water dispenser seem to have a mind of their own, dispensing randomly, unleashing a torrent of ice or water (depending on what it is set to) to pour uncontrollably onto the floor without a way to stop it. This is not just inconvenient, but poses a risk if you are not home when it happens. The melting mess may damage your floors. The only solution seems to be cutting off the power entirely, and not use the refrigerator. Compared to my previous 20 year-old GE Profile refrigerator, this is a lemon. The reliability and predictability once synonymous with the GE brand is a thing of the past. Buyer beware.

We bought the cafà refrigerator / freezer due to our other GE profile after six years died and it was going to cost us way too much to fix it. I had to buy the cafà in order to get the same set up that™€™s in the GE profile had & liked. We spend a bit more but it was worth it. I like the look seems to be doing great so far since we just got it installed this month.

So noisy, horrible customer service

This is my second time writing a review - our refrigerator started making a very loud buzzing noise within the first 6mo after installation. GE has been out to try and fix it 5+ times, and the techs have been very nice and helpful. However, we've now come to a point where even the engineers agree it cannot be fixed and should be replaced. I was hoping that'd be easy to resolve, but I've never dealt with a customer service dept in any other business that has been as frustrating to work with as GE. They will not stand buy their product and either keep fixing it or replace it; they insist we just have to buy a new one. I'm sure customer service will respond on this review board saying that they someone has been in touch, but I want potential buyers to know that they are not actually helpful or customer-friendly when they do reach out. I wish they would allow videos to be posted on this site as I have multiple clips with how loud and obnoxious this noise is. We strongly regret buying the refrigerator.

Disappointing quality

This refrigerator was a disappointment. The plastic used for the drawers and other parts is poor quality one drawer is broken and the shelf in the freezer is cracked. Also the icemaker has not worked since day one. Shelves are narrow and not at all sturdy. Was not worth the money I spent on it.

Noisy!!

Horrible experience with this refrigerator. Makes a very loud intermittent buzzing sound. GE has been out to fix it 5 times (replacing multiple parts) only for the noise to return within a few months. They've now admitted they can't fix it, but won't replace it either - they want us to buy a new one at an "age related discount". DO NOT BUY THIS!

Water filter malfunction

The worst refrigerator I have ever owned or used. The water filter system does not work properly. The filter needs to be changed every 3 weeks. We have exhausted options on how to resolve the issue, GE is of no help. Do not buy this refrigerator.

our 17 years old GE suddenly gave up the ghost on weekend....tried to replace it with something similar and found this beaut! Size is a little smaller, but fit into the kitchen space/counter space we had. Ice maker is smaller but pumps out plenty for our use and like the crisper bins. Water and ice feature outside door are super easy to use/control, etc. All upgraded electronics are nice additions and love the taste of the filtered water.

Beautiful refrigerator to match our other Cafe appliances. It seems to be finger-print resistant and cleans easily. It's smaller than other models, but I like the counter-depth and it offers more than enough space for our family of 3. My only complaint is the leaking water dispenser. I have had similar issues with our manufacturers, so it seems to be a common problem across makers.

The Cafe refrigerator is nice. Although not as nice as the GE Profile it replaced. I believe the overall quality of everything you buy now-a-days has gone a little downhill. For example, the outside finish on the new Cafe is stainless just on the doors. My old profile was all stainless! The auger for the ice dispenser is now plastic, whereas my old Profile's auger was steel. It's just little things that I have noticed. Now I will just have to see if the longevity of the new Cafe is just as good as my old Profile.

Loud buzzing nose, awful customer service

We've been very disappointed in this refrigerator and even more disappointed in the awful customer service. We bought the fridge in May 2021, and within a couple months it started making an intermittent loud buzzing noise -- not just a quiet hum that our previous refrigerators have made, but an aggressive buzz that stops conversation in the room or wakes children up from sleep in the next room. GE came out to "fix it" 4 times between Dec 2021 and April 2022 -- never actually fixing the problem for more than a couple months. Since then, the problem has continued but they won't fix it for free because it's out of warranty (even though the problem clearly started while under warranty). It's not worth the money, or the headache dealing with GE -- WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!

It is a lot smaller interior wise than the ge monogram that I had previously. It keeps everything cold and freezer is doing it™€™s job so it is working. Ice maker works. I™€™m not excited about this purchase. It is what it is.

This product is extremely disappointing. The doors do not close completely and then an alarm sound begins. The storage is minimal compared to other brands (Cafe will not let me share the exact brand name, sadly). No butter dish, wine rack, or egg holder was provided. The ice maker consumes most of the freezer door. I will never recommend this brand.
